Glen Breton Rare Battle
In 2000, the Scotch Whisky Association filed a lawsuit against Glenora Distillers after the release of its first bottling, “Glen Breton Rare.” This led to much media attention in newspapers, magazines, and online platforms within the whisky and local cultural communities in North America.
The only Single Malt Whisky distillery on the continent had become a hot topic. After winning the legal battle in the summer of 2009, Glenora Distillers decided to dedicate a bottling to commemorate the event, fittingly named “Battle of the Glen.”
The Glen Breton Rare Battle of Glen 15 Year Old Canadian Single Malt Whisky offers a subtle nose of summer-cut applewood with undertones of Highland honey. The palate is taken by surprise with waves of malt that are powerful yet not overbearing, followed by a complex orchard of flavor.
The finish provides a rich, almost lubricious mouthfeel, with the malt withdrawing into heat and resolving into the warm caress of an enduring companion. The peat character is very subtle, evoking memories of autumn leaves through wisps of hardwood smoke.
Glenora Distillers is based in Glenville, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Cape Breton Island. The distillery’s flagship product is Glen Breton Rare whisky, made in the Scottish-style as a single malt whisky rather than the traditional Canadian rye.
The distillery also produces various specialty whiskies and rum and operates the Glenora Inn & Distillery as a tourist attraction and bed and breakfast. Today, Glenora Distillers is one of four single malt Scottish-style distilleries in Canada.
