Speymalt Macallan 1990 Gordon and MacPhail. Macallan 1990 Speymalt Bottling Note Behold, a 1990 vintage bottling of single malt from the much-adored Macallan Distillery! This expression was independently bottled by the legendary Gordon & MacPhail in 2012 for the Speymalt series, which showcases some spectacular examples of Macallan’s whisky. 

The Macallan Distillery was established by Alexander Reid in 1824 near Easter Elchies House on the Easter Elchies estate. Easter Elchies House dates back to 1700. Speymalt Macallan 1990 is a malt whisky distillery situated in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. The old still house was re-commissioned in 2008 and now Macallan Distillery operates with two still houses sheltering twenty-one copper stills.

On-site maturation is carried out in traditional dunnage warehouses and by racking in large new warehouses on the estate. The Macallan visitor centre welcomes visitors throughout the year and offers distillery tours. The Macallan Distillery also participates in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

Nose: Hints of toasted oak with a sweet honey nose. Delicate hints of rose petals and a burst of aniseed.

Palate: Sweet with honey influences and a subtle burst of pepper. Creamy with some dark chocolate notesemerging. Well rounded and smooth.

Macallan is to Scottish single malts what Petrus is to French grand crus – a monument! To this day, no other distillery has sold a single edition at such a high auction price as The Macallan 60 Year Old 1926 Dillon, which fetched £1.2 million in 2018.

Macallan owes this renown to the excellence of its production methods and its sherry-cask maturation, as well as the business acumen of its owners who, in the early 20th century, set out to conquer numerous markets, and the aptness of their vision of the distillery and its single malt, which they recognized as being akin to a château and grand cru.
